I remember the old days of first generation data connection. Ringtones services were praying on unsuspecting people like wolves, charging money in exchange for a simple sound byte. However, with the advent of higher connection speeds and less handicapped phones, these practices became obsolete. But that doesn't mean that users will search themselves for ringtones or phone wallpapers. Enter Zedge!
The premise of Zedge is simple. Navigate the catalog and chose your liking of wallpapers, sounds or icons. All free. The wallpaper and ringtone collections are customized to your location. For example, these days you might see wallpapers supporting your national Football team (I'm talking about Europe), but also ringtones that touch on local hits and language.
What I personally like about Zedge is its ease of use. Wallpapers fit the device screen perfectly and can be applied as soon as they are downloaded. This also goes for ringtones; Once downloaded you can set them up as ringtone, notification, contact sound or alarm.
There is also a live wallpapers section and one for games. These simply direct to Google Play for download.
What really gained my admiration though is the Icons section. Now in Beta, icons come in theme packs and don't need to be downloaded in full. Not at all. You can simply select individual icons and then apply them to any shortcut you wish. How cool is that?
Zedge Ringtones & Wallpapers is the most ergonomic device personalization tool that I've tried. Do you want your phone to transform into a multicolored gumball? I'm sure there's enough content for that. Do you want it looking more somber, plenty of that too.
